You are getting later and later in David's life here. Obviously, having seen what happened to Jericho and Ai, they knew God and Israel were serious. The Gibeonites decided on a different strategy. Deep and long lasting trouble for both parties - both the Israelites and the Gibeonites - was the fruit of this clever, but calamitous deception. If you read 2Samuel 21 carefully, it seems possible that Saul and his house may have been trying to get the Gibeonites territory. It is not pretty when we allow the people of the land to dictate to us. They wanted blood by putting to death seven male descendants to die for the crimes of that house against the Gibeonites. This is pretty clear. They got a couple of their men, maybe elders, and got them to appear like they came along distance. All it is, was, "We want blood, and anyone from the house of Saul will do.". After 7-10 years of war, David has solidified his empire Mar 2, 2022. David did all this, it seems, off the top of his head. I think he was distracted by all the cares of his office of being king. Over the years I've urged our Fellowship to check out, investigate and take to heart such biblical alarms. In reading the Psalms, on the other hand, we get an idea of just how grateful he was for God's forgiveness and grace, because I believe he was aware of just what a rotten individual he really was. But talk about your flawed heroes! And David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done. They knew! And we are supposed to be ready. There is less bloodshed, and there will not be much opportunity like in Gentile nations for these blood feuds to last for years and generations. Another group, however, argues that as God's anointed king, Lets be clear from the very beginning, David was kind to Mephibosheth for his father Jonathans sake (2 Samuel 9:1). Mephibosheth was only five ye Without checking out their story; without surveying the geographical situation; most of all, without consulting the Lord and waiting for His guidance, Joshua went impulsively ahead and signed a binding, lasting agreement with the Gibeonites. Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! And it would have been done quickly and easily. Psalm 34:4-10 I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. But, very few people can relate to sinless perfection. He realized how often, and how far, he strayed from God's way of life. He was endangering the whole army by being out there, an old man trying to fight like a young man. Jesus Christ should be everyone's ultimate hero. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Joshua realized he had been deceived, but he kept the letter of his covenant with the Gibeonites to let them live; however, he cursed and enslaved them as woodcutters and water-carriers. Saul later pursued the Gibeonites and sought to kill them off in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah. All they wanted, they said, was a peace treaty with Israel; then they would return to their distant home. In other words, we want them to be just like us. Saul tried to get back his throne from God by doing what he thought was right, what he thought was zealous for God, by getting rid of the foreignersincluding the Gibeonitesthat were among them. He then tells David that he can't marry Michal until he brings Saul 100 Philistine foreskins, thinking that David will definitely die in this attempt. I don't know a great deal about this particular segment of those biblical people called the Hittites. If you read Psalm 51 it is very clear that he understood his own makeup. 1. However, this chapter drops a few hints about it. So this zeal may not have carried good connotations (cf John 2:17) it was not zeal for God but zeal for man, an ongoing problem with Saul. Perhaps those first two, Armoni, and Mephibosheth were old enough to have participated in the event. Those who believe that they can outsmart, outflank or in any way outmaneuver our Enemy through cerebral strategies are doomed to the slavery and destruction heaped upon Saul and the Gibeonites. So he said, "Whatever you say, I will do for you." You had only black and white television if you had television. Finally the light came on, and David said, "I had better ask what is going on here.
